Remembrance 2018

As part of St Clement Danes activities to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War, each form group at the school was asked to create their own ‘100’ design to commemorate the event and pay tribute to the fallen. The creations, which are hanging in Student Reception, are receiving much praise from visitors to the school. As you can see from the photographs, it was a task taken seriously by all concerned, with some stunning and moving designs created.

On Friday, students will join together with visiting Old Danes in a service of remembrance. The Head Boy and Head Girl will lay wreaths with their Deputies at the memorial in the central courtyard of the school as the Last Post sounds. As ever, it is sure to be a moving occasion, with the centenary adding a particularly poignant note.

The school is also represented in the series of events being organised by Chorleywood Parish Council over the weekend. The events include a film showing, book talk and street party. There will also be various displays in the Memorial Hall to show how the war affected the local community. Our school's archivist, Fiona Hirst, has put together a fascinating display about the school's involvement which we would urge you to visit.
