Upper School Production of 'Her Naked Skin'

The recent Upper School production of 'Her Naked Skin' by Rebecca Lenkiewicz captivated audiences earlier this month, drawing enthusiastic responses, including from GCSE students at Onslow St Audrey’s School. Set against the backdrop of the British women’s fight for voting rights in the early 20th century, the play not only showcased the talent of the cast but also served as a powerful vehicle to narrate a pivotal chapter in history.

Central to the storyline is the love story between characters Eve and Celia, weaving its way through the play. This aspect reveals profound insights into the issues of class, privilege, and the societal constraints these women faced. At the core of the narrative lies the fundamental right to equality, echoing the struggles that paved the way for women's right to vote.

Mrs May, Director of the production and Drama teacher, shared a personal connection to the theme, “My great grandmother was first able to vote at the age of 30 in 1918,  I find it hard to reconcile that until this point, she was denied this fundamental right. Over a hundred years later I am so proud of this incredibly talented group of young people who told this story.”

The Drama faculty, committed to using theatre to tell stories that might otherwise be overlooked, sought to challenge the students by delving into the narrative of courageous women who shaped the world. The talent, commitment and sensitivity of the cast has been inspiring; exploring the private worlds of these women with maturity and care.
