Two Conferences, One Mission: Sixth Formers Unite for Global Understanding and to Counter Hate!

On Wednesday 9th October, five A Level Politics students visited Wimbledon High School to attend a Student Leadership Conference, sponsored by Hope Not Hate, an organisation that advocates tolerance, unity, and inclusivity, values that are central to our own school's principles of Success, Character and Dignity.  Speakers included Baroness Warsi and representatives from Chatham House, the independent international policy institute based in London.

One of St Clement Dane's delegates was Lani Ringel who commented "The Conference was an invaluable opportunity to interact with students from other schools and helped us develop our communication and critical thinking skills. All the speakers and workshops were immensely impressive and got us really thinking about important global issues in a different way."

A week later, several Sixth Formers with a keen interest in studying Law at university took part in a Hate Crime event in Hatfield organised by Hertfordshire Police. Our students worked together to create a Hate Crime Video for TikTok and took part in other workshops that focused on hate crime legislation culminating in a mock trial where students became prosecutors, defendants, and members of the jury.

Victoria Amedume felt "whilst the event was a lot of fun and interesting, the mock trial concerned a very serious scenario connected to Hate Crime that helped me develop my debating skills as well as teaching me how a defendant and plaintiff work in court cases."
