Commemoration 2019

On Friday 22nd November St Clement Danes School celebrated its annual Commemoration Day. Students from Years 7, 11, 12 and 13 attended the service at St Clement Danes Church in the Strand along with Staff, Trustees, Governors, Parents and other esteemed guests. A second service was held in the Barbirolli Hall at school, with students from Years 8, 9 and 10 in attendance. The services commemorate the founding of St Clement Danes School in 1862. The service is always held on a day close to the 23 November, the day of St Clement, Patron Saint of Mariners.

The service at St Clement Danes Church was conducted by the Reverend (Wing Commander) David Osborn, Resident Chaplain at the Church. The Address was given by James Roberts, Minister of the Connect Church, Chorleywood. The congregation enjoyed a superb service with a wide range of musical items including Jerusalem (Parry),Pie Jesu (Durufle), The Anchor is our Emblem (Hancock), Choir and Orchestra, ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’ (Rutter) and Recessional Organ Voluntary “Variations sur ”In Dulci Jubilo” (Bedard). The Processional Cross was carried by Head Boy Jack McGee, followed by Year 8 Acolyte Torch bearers Cameron Chambers and Lottie Gillies, who were awarded this privilege for their outstanding attitude to work last year.  Readings were given by Head Girl Yasmin 91ÖÆƬ³§r and Headteacher Mr Toby Sutherland. Thanks are extended to Mr Jon Butterfield for arranging the spectacular music at the service.

Assistant Headteacher Mr Mike Garvey welcomed students, staff and visitors to the service held in the Barbirolli Hall at school. Year 8 student Dayanita Shukla introduced the service, followed by readings from fellow students, Tamsyn Wellington, Chris Shearlock , Renee George, Amman Majithia, David Soroceanu,  James Sweeney, Tobin Purslow , Oliver Gillmore, Dayanita Shukla, and Iman Siddiqui. The address was given by Dominic Dumville, a Youth Worker from Connect Church, Chorleywood.  A wonderful array of music and songs were performed by students Beth McKechnie, Jenika Patel, Cacey Yeun, Aleeza Hussain-Ashary and Rosa Peterson, in addition to a stunning dance performed by Kaitlyn McHale and Gianna St James. Thanks were given to Light and Sound team -Luke Perera and Isaac Daborn Mann.

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to making Commemoration Day a truly memorable day for everyone who attended both services!
