1985-1995

In April 1994 St Clement Danes School was incorporated as a grant-maintained school. It was a mixed ability, co-educational school based in Chenies Road, Chorleywood. During this period students recalled the Great Storm of 1987 which caused widespread destruction across the UK. Crime detection using DNA also made a major breakthrough with the first man convicted of murder in 1988 using DNA fingerprint evidence.

Margaret Thatcher resigned as Prime Minister in 1990 – the same year that the internet was invented. In 1991 Britain joined the USA in the war against Iraq and in 1994 the ‘Chunnel’ opened between Britain and France.

If you were at the school during this period we would love to hear your views.  Simply email them, along with any schooldays photos you may have, to hardyj565@stclementdanes.herts.sch.uk Thank you.
